Titleist AP2 Forged Irons Reviews and Discount

There are few reviews as eagerly by Sand Trap forum members and readers of this and our upcoming expected been checking the Titleist AP1s. Our Bag Drop article announcing these clubs has more than 50 comments and my follow-up field test is probably up to 50 before this Review will be published. In the forum, the people are for the cultivation, sale, and questions about the AP2S AP1s and left and right. Titleist golf club VP Chris McGinley Believe that this "is made of the most technically advanced forging ever," adding that "forged the unprecedented demand for this in the iron Category. Not since the Hogan edge it has so much enthusiasm and demand for a page-wrought iron. "

Titleist, always at or near the top in the "Players Iron "category added in 2008, while simplifying its product line and expands the target market. Although her ZB and ZM models are still, for those players cavity and muscle backs, the AP1 and AP2 pretty much every letter should be as available from the PGA Tour golfers on the "aspiring" golfer.

This review raises a look at the Titleist Forged AP2S – the iron for the "qualified" players in Titleist's intended usage. The "skilled" golfers is someone with a low handicap right up to PGA Tour stars like Adam Scott. Like Scott, I have gained muscle backs for several years because of feeling to their bosses enormous processing and cost requirements that my swing held in check. Read on to find out what I think of fairly radical departure from Titleist's also its recent past.

Design and Technology
The AP1 and AP2 were designed from Titleist veteran Peter Gilbert, designer of almost all significant DCI iron the past, with the leadership of Dan Stone, the new head of golf club research and development. Gilbert began with a fresh slate, casting aside the well-preserved 775s and 755s, and the technology which they had brought their current state. He looked to new materials, new forms and new processes and created a revolutionary pair of iron – the AP-iron.

The elastomer pad is located behind the face and pinches the feel and sound. As seen here, seems to be much larger than it really is.

Titleist Forged AP2 describes as "enhanced performance, multi-material, dual cavity, technical forged irons traditional solid feel, looks and shot control for the experienced players. "Well, yeah. Let's crack the marketing mumbo jumbo, to see what we came here really.

The abbreviation "AP" stands for "Performance Advaned," and the AP2 is built with several materials, that is "multi-material." The AP2S with a 1025 Carbon steel formed. Laser on the back and sole, a tungsten-nickel lowered the focus welded, creating an optimum CG location low and deep in the clubhead. The extremely low center of gravity resulting in improved launch conditions with consistent distance and ball speed for optimum launch and spin for trajectory control. Titleist calls this "breaking process" one, and in the words of Chris McGinley said: "Never has a back with this type of function or complicated geometry been welded to a forged body. "The breakthrough is in the order of the undercut cavities by the likes of Taylor Made and Callaway busy.

A rubber cushion and a metallic cavity plate complete the list of materials. Both materials feel soften the impact, the best sound pitch, and generally feel a bit more sweeter.

The minimum offset hosel lengths and different in this shot obviously, as like the line between the steel and the tungsten nickel box.

Titleist AP2 has the "dual cavity design." The first cavity is obvious: it is the higher Part of the club over the elastomeric pad and below the line of the club. The second chamber is the tungsten-nickel disappear. Both cavities press the weight to the scope, improving forgiveness on off-center shots. The lower cavity "capped" with what Titleist accounts of the "central traverse." It is a metal shelf that connects the back of the cavity face, directly behind the clubface, and it improves the rigidity of the rather thin face while to slow down in cooperation with the elastomer cushion to face vibration.

Finally, the sole itself is optimized for better players. Although the Sole is slightly wider than most good players are used to it, it has a relieved trailing edge and optimized aiming to bounce, to achieve the delicate Mixture of forgiveness and playability for the better golfer.

Aesthetics
Better players care a good deal on a club aesthetic, and to say the look of the AP2 has been the subject of many discussions, would be an understatement of significant proportions.

Whether it is the metal insert on the Back to the blind see, the "Silver" AP2 "logo in the toe of the tungsten-nickel, or just the shock of seeing a Titleist iron with some graphical "stuff" on it, I do not address. After all, the 775 and 755 were not exactly sober and simple in appearance, either, what with its colorful back and aluminum bars and things.

Personally, I was on the look of the AP-like iron, and find that they look a good bit nicer in person than in JPEGs on the web. Not that it matters much – you do not see the cavity back operations or to the toe at address decals. It's just there for "bag appeal" and whether you like it or not, the AP2 is clearly visible.

At the Company's address, the AP2 a noticeably thicker than the back line I muscle back in prior Years to play. The thickness is on par with other experienced players cavity back, like the Cleveland CG Red, the TaylorMade r7 TP and is much thicker and Titleist 695.CB or example, their new models. In addition, the slightly thicker topline hidden behind the club and presents a clean look at address.

The AP2S have what a Titleist bills "confidence-inspiring appearance." They are modern, with a satin groove area framed by polished steel on the toe and heel. They have a traditional profile and blade / hosel junction, which flows seamlessly and with little offset. The hosel themself vary in the length of the sentence they are shorter the promotion in long irons to start, and more control in short irons to help trajectory.

The ferrule is the simple clean look at address and fits the simple, un-entered the stock Project X shafts right to continue to look through the stock Tour Velvet grip.

Performance
Again, I've always played muscle functions associated with the feedback that offer them. If I have a cavity back iron – even the "good golfer" cavity back like the TaylorMade r7 TP or the Cleveland CG Red – my game and swing quickly from their lack of feedback to suffer. Bad swings are rewarded with decent shots and a generic "feel", and suffers my ballstriking. I can not play the variety of shots I like to play around the golf course. After a short, fine droplets of scoring, is suffering increasing my swing and my scores.

The backs the clubs have an aluminum medallion that will help to fine-tune the sound and feel.

In other words, I have learned to stay away from the "Good golfer" cavity back. I need all the feedback I can get and where it is critical to keep my swing in mood.

It was with some trepidation that I first hit AP2S. To be honest, seemed Titleist ZM and ZB models more my thing. But long-term muscle back players and traditionalists like Adam Scott had made the switch to the AP2, then, was who I to argue?

No one, that who. Although my first impressions were quite positive, I was only AP2 to like and appreciate the more the longer I used it.

With other clubs in this class (r7 TP, CG Red), transmit only the worst blows enough feedback so I know where I had hit the ball. Contact in the middle of the face (but not necessarily on the sweet spot) all tend to have the same and a little feeling dull. I need not have worried about the AP2S, as they almost all the feedback that I have come to expect from my muscle was back iron can. Each Bit of feedback is transmitted, albeit in a weakened form. If you pay attention, you can detect the difference between a good shot and beaten, which just missed. I have found that virtually impossible with the others, but the AP2S Excel in this area and I can not praise them highly enough.

For the times when you find the sweet spot, can not be described as buttery smooth as with a muscle back, but it's terribly close. I'm not sure if I ever have an iron "crack" with as much clarity and force, as do this if you have a catch on the "sweet spot", either one, but it is Music to my ears. Miss know it a little, and in turn can be a muted tone of a slightly different pitch you.

The 3 -, 6 – and 9-iron. Check out the 3-iron topline. When I say "thick" TopLine, I mean "little."

Feedback on mis-hits is great, but it was also nice to discover, that AP2 does not punish you severely for small mis-hits. In case of contact would be ½ "on the top in your golf ball landed short and right into a bunker with, say, due to The Titleist 695.MB, coinciding with the AP2 strike the ball just on the edge or the front right portion of the putting green place. While this seems to be the contact over the entire face: the AP2 consistently exceeds all of the play muscle back and I have a number of "good players" cavity-back iron, too.

If you are used to working the ball is not the AP2S disappoint. First, even though I was the height of the control and processing this iron would skeptically, I found that I had to little or no adjustments in the reproduction of images, the curve left or right, or go higher into the air. These clubs will hinder my ability, the super-low shot, as if struck while playing by trees, but this is somewhat mitigated by the project X shaft. It is a low-spin shaft, so shots in the wind was not playing must do to completely beaten so much, and limit the number of times you are forced to flight the ball really low.

But I had one last concern: the wider sole. In reality plays the sole is thinner than it looks because of the trailing edge relief. After playing in the wet, dry, from bent / poa fairways and Bermuda fairways and from all possible other lies (which I prefer not to talk), I found my concerns wrong. I can still get the ball out of the hardpan and other tough lies. I can be up to the ball when it is embedded in the rough. I can even the ball just a little bit hard with no real disadvantage. Whether I open or close the face or the movement of the ball up or back in my stance, I never felt that was the only obstacle in the way or my ability to pull off a shot, and, if the ever so slightly heavy shots felt as if the sole provide just enough to slide into the back of the ball without much club head speed to move.

One thing you are may not be aware that the grooves on the Titleist Forged AP1s AP2S and the proposed revised specifications. While I applaud the treatment of their customers Titleist good (you can iron them reasonably comfortable in the knowledge that they should meet the revised rules) buy, it took me a while to get used to get back with leaflets tariff. Knowing how to judge is not a flier lie a skill many golfers have ever learned, but it is a skill that can be learned quite easily and may very well be something that all golfers will do very soon.

In the end, the AP2S what I have to be perfect just the to consider combination of forgiveness, feedback and playability. Before, my choices were muscle back clubs with a lot of feedback I longed but virtually no forgiveness or cavity-back Clubs that provided little or no feedback to reward me for ready mis-hits but this mis-hits with good results. The AP2 offers me the best of both and not take away my ability, creative shots against the wind to beat or to access hidden pins.

Technical data
The AP2S come with Project X shafts camp tour Velvet grips, and a set of eight irons (3-PW) with lofts and lies down. Retail price is about $ 999. They are available for both right-and left-handed.

You are Titleist iron, but so rich custom options. Right to adjust the length from +2 inches to -1 inch (left-handed from +1 to -½"). 1 °, and right-handed can adjust the lie angle from +4 ° to -2 ° (+ / – - Lofts are + / set, 2 ° for left-handed).

I'm a fan of the new decade Multi Compound grips, so I got that. You can also choose to replace the standard Tour Velvets with Golf Pride grips such as dual Durometer, Tour Velvet Ribbed Tour Velvet Cord, and Tour Wrap Lamkin grips, or as the Crossline and Crossline Cord or Winn grips like the Black RF or V17 AVS.

Shaft Options include several in both graphite (Aldila VS Proto-T in different weights, Graphite Design YS-Iron + w / GAT) and steel (Project X, Project X Flighted, Rifle, Nippon NS Pro Tri-Spec, Dynalite Gold Dynalite Gold Sensicore, Dynamic Gold, Dynamic Gold HL, and more).

A 51 ° "W" Wedge is available, and eight-iron "4-W" kits are for those who do not prefer a 3-iron available.

Loft Lie Offset Length Swing Weight
—- — —— ———— ——
3-iron 21 ° 60 ° 39 "D2 0.160"
6-iron 31 ° 62.5 ° 37.5 "D2 0.120"
9-iron 43 ° 64 ° 36 "D2 0.090 "lofts of the clubs are pretty traditional. You can Balk, what seems to be a degree less loft than normal to be on some iron, but I can assure you the tungsten-nickel lowers the center of gravity and increases in the ball flight, greater efforts to something attic. Their distances should be consistent, unless your current Iron "Cheat" with super-strong lofts.

Overall
While Titleist has long been in an "evolutionary" phase (see 690MB -> 695.MB -> ZM-line), so subtle tweaks to proven designs, the AP1 and AP2 is a revolutionary break with the old and make a bold new direction for Titleist.

Revolutions are not without risk but that risk has paid off for Titleist. The AP2S are some of the best "skilled player" non-muscle back iron I ever 've played. They offer the perfect blend forgiveness and feedback that good golfers need. If you past the slightly thicker top line and you do not often lead to a super-low shot taken, this club may well find their way into your pocket. If they do, they should fall your results, you should increase your consistency, and satisfaction could very well made all-time high. I know me.
