Which iron set is better?

I am looking into buying either a set of Ben Hogan Edge CFT irons or Taylor Made RAC HT irons. Which one would be better for someone who shoots in the mid-high 90′s? Are there any major differences?

I can’t test them out since it’s an online purchase, but the price is right.

How to Choose Golf Clubs, This is a big problem for those new golfers.If you’re a low-handicap golfer, you generally score less than ten strokes over par. Low-handicap golfers should carry at least one fairway wood and a driver as well as lower irons, and at least 3 wedges, a pitching wedge, sand wedge and either a lob wedge or approach wedge. A mid-handicap golfer in the 11-20 handicap range should add a 7-wood or even a 9-wood to their bag. The fairway woods will provide much better control and consistency than the long irons. Mid-handicap golfers should stick to the 3 and 9-irons and the same wedges recommended above. High-handicap golfers are either new to the game or just haven’t mastered the basics and usually shoots over 100. It’s highly suggested that high-handicap golfers use the 3-wood for the tee off and add in the 7 and 9-woods. The same wedges would apply that are suggested for the low and mid-handicap golfers.
Today, common concensus is that the most important club you can have in your golf bag is a hybrid. Many golfers have used this club to replace the three-iron. Tour players are even switching to this club. Hybrids to check out include the Taylormade Rescue Mid (which continues to dominate the market and is found in more bags on the tour than any other hybrid), the Nike CPR, and the Ben Hogan CFT. The hybrid is a club that favors the golfer who is generating good clubhead speed, but needs to add to long-iron trajectory. The lower center of gravity in this club produces higher shots while a short shaft will improve control and accuracy.
Drivers and woods are probably the most important clubs in the bag and everybody loves them. Mainly used for longer shots, drivers are usually the first club out of the bag on the tee. Some advanced golfers, however, may decide to use a driver off the fairway is they need a little extra distance. A fairway or metal wood is also used off the tee if you need a more accurate shot or you don’t need as much distance as you would get with a driver. This club, however, is a necessity in every golfer’s bag and definitely a trusted friend to every player who’s ever been on the tour. The Cleveland CG10, the Titleist Vokey, and the Cleveland 588 are three of the best. The popularity of the wedge is evident in that Cleveland and Titleist have over 112 combined wedge options.
Finally, the putter is a club that has certainly gone high tech and some of the newer Super Mallets look like they belong in Science Fiction movies. Thankfully, though the traditional putters are still performing well and remain favorites. The Super Mallet putters getting the most attention are the Odyssey 2-ball (White Steel) , the Ping G2i Craz-E and the TaylorMade Rossa Monza/Mezza Monza. The old standbys of the traditional putters include the Ping G2i, the PING JAS, and the Yes! Golf C-Groove.
Once you have a general understanding of when and why you need to use a certain type of club, there are still many decisions to make before actually making a purchase. Many driving ranges have golf clubs for rent and it may be a good idea to try out a few different clubs before actually making your purchase. Golf clubs, especially the name brands like Titleist, Cleveland and Nike can be very expensive. If you’re new to the sport, consider starting out with second hand clubs. Or you can buy them from some online golf shop with unbelievable cheap price but high quality of brand new products. The new Nike SasQuatch Sumo Driver has a higher MOI than original SQ driver at 4950 g/cm2 for greater forgiveness and increased distance. A larger and lower power bow moves CG lower and further back and further increases MOI. Get all the game-changing technology and performance that you’ve come to expect from Nike Golf. With some golfer reviews may be that you can understand this club better.

I first began using this driver as an upgrade to a previous Ignite from Nike that I used through 2 varsity golf seasons and two USGA tournaments. This driver is by far the greatest piece of driving equipment that I have ever used, it’s a workable but still forgiving design that launches the ball off the face. When you hit this driver, you feel it, and when you hit the sweet-spot you know it. This driver has helped – and kept – me attain a driving average of 285 off the tee, and no other driver feels the same. It’s light and powerful, the stiff ALDILA NV that I use on it is great for people with fast swing speeds, and it goes far no matter where you hit it on the face, but doesn’t lose touch like most non-tour “forgiving” drivers. If you play at a level where you can work the ball, like myself, it is a great piece of equipment as well given the Tour face design.

So, I learned my lesson. If something is working LEAVE IT ALONE! Was playing the regular 460 with stock reg flex diamana shaft and starting slicing everything – could not get it straight – so..it had to be the driver – could not have been me – sold it and bought a TM r5 TP – driver was okay but i suffered a huge loss of distance – 30 yards – sold it – went back to the nike but this time with the tour model – got it with a graffalloy pro launch shaft and i am happy again – the tour model plays very straight for me with a lower ball flight than the reg model – the length is a touch longer that the reg model also – i won’t let this one go again – this is a great driver and the deeper face on the tour model with the smaller power band if very confident to the eye – i don’t even notice the absence of the alignment aid on the top of the club – great club first time out with it (even without taking it to the range) i missed only two fairways – still not sure about the shaft combination – will most likely get tested once the game is in shape – you will be happy with this driver!

what is the difference between a regular and stiff golf club shaft?

Because I plan on buying a new driver and curious which one is better suited for me.

mike, a stiff shaft helps if you slice? wow. that is news to the golfing world.

there is no set swing speed for stiff or regular flex. every shaft is rated differently. get measured and then check the rating on the shaft you are considering.

if your shaft is too stiff, the shaft will not be loaded and will come through with an open face resulting in a short shot straight off to the right for a right handed golfer and straight right for a left handed golfer. this is not a slice.

if your shaft is too flexible the shaft will be lagging as your hands pass through the impact area and turn over closing the clubface, but the clubface is late through the impact area so by the time it hits the ball the clubface is well closed resulting in a pull, straight left for a right handed golfer, straight left for a left handed golfer.

getting measured for clubhead speed will resolve most of this mystery for you.

Where to Get Used Golf Balls

When playing golf or practising your game you are likely to need many more than just one golf ball, and since these can be quite expensive it might be time to look for some used golf balls. The best thing about used golf balls is that they may be really pro brands such as Titleist golf balls, but you will be getting them for much less than they would cost new.

You can buy used golf balls online quite easily, but you may be wondering just how you can check out what condition these balls are in. After all, if they are full of cracks and splits they are not going to improve your game any and could even damage your clubs.

Online stores that sell used golf balls usually grade them using a variety of words or codes. They may be graded as A or AA, or even AAA by one store while another will grade them by describing them as in mint condition or simply as grade 1, 2 or 3.

Here are a few things you can expect to see when buying cheap golf balls. Marks, scratches and scuffs. Naturally if balls are in mint condition you would not expect to see a mark of any kind on them. However, a few marks and scratches will be on balls that are graded down. So long as they are not too pronounced they will not harm your game or your clubs.

Discolouration is something to check for in used golf balls. It is not that the colour itself would be harmful, but the cause of the discolouration is the problem. It could mean that the golf ball has spent some time at the bottom of a pond. A used ball in mint condition should be shiny and white.

Texta markings could be on the ball. This will not make any difference to the way it plays; it is up to you if you want to use a ball that is marked.

Logo markings. Again it is up the your own personal preference whether you play with golf balls that have another company’s logo or brand name on them. It certainly won’t affect your game and you may feel that the lesser cost you had to pay makes it worthwhile.
